Grant us, Lord our God, that we may honor you with all our mind and love everyone in truth of heart through our Lord Jesus Christ, your son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, forever and ever. 00:03:29,567 S3: Amen. 00:03:30,701 S4: A reading from the book of the Prophet Zephaniah. Seek the Lord, all you humble of the land. Who do his commands. Seek righteousness. Seek humility. Perhaps you may be hidden on the day of the Lord's wrath. For I will leave in the midst of you a people humble and lowly. They shall seek refuge in the name of the Lord. The remnant of Israel. They shall do no wrong and utter no lies, nor shall a deceitful tongue be found in their mouths. Then they will pasture and lie down, and no one shall make them afraid. The word of the Lord. 00:04:12,000 S3: Thanks be to God. 00:04:26,801 S5: Blessed are the poor in spirit. The kingdom of heaven is there. 00:04:39,767 S5: It is the Lord who keeps faith forever. 00:04:46,467 S5: Who executes justice for the oppressed. 00:04:53,200 S5: Who gives birth to the hungry? 00:04:59,000 S5: The Lord sets the prisoners free. 00:05:05,267 S5: Blessed are the poor in spirit. The kingdom of heaven is there. 00:05:17,868 S5: The Lord opens the eyes of the blind and lifts up those who are bowed down. 00:05:30,100 S5: The Lord loves the righteous. 00:05:35,400 S5: And watches over the strangers. 00:05:41,868 S5: Blessed are the poor in spirit. The kingdom of heaven is there. 00:05:55,000 S5: The Lord upholds the orphan and the widows. 00:06:02,000 S5: But the way of the wicked he brings to rule. And. 00:06:09,100 S5: The Lord will reign forever. 00:06:14,767 S5: Your God, O Zion, for all generations. 00:06:22,868 S5: Blessed are the poor in spirit. The kingdom of heaven is there. 00:06:47,667 S4: A reading from the first letter of Saint Paul to the Corinthians. Consider your own call, brothers and sisters. Not many of you were wise by human standards. Not many were powerful. Not many were of noble birth. But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise. God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong. God chose what is low and despised in the world. Things that are not to reduce to nothing. Things that are so that no one might boast in the presence of God. God is the source of your life in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God and righteousness and sanctification and redemption, in order that as it is written, let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord. The word of the Lord. 00:07:45,367 S3: Thanks be to God. 00:07:56,767 S5: Alleluia, 00:08:01,267 S5: In New York. Alleluia. 00:08:08,367 S5: Alleluia. Alleluia. 00:08:13,000 S5: Rejoice and be glad. For your reward is great in heaven. 00:08:24,367 S5: Oh, yeah. I'm in New York. 00:08:43,767 S2: The Lord be with you. 00:08:44,968 S3: And with your spirit. 00:08:46,300 S2: A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew. 00:08:48,767 S3: Glory to you, oh, Lord. 00:08:51,701 S2: When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up to the mountain. And after he sat down, his disciples came to him. Then he began to speak and taught them, saying, blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you, and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven. For in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you. The gospel of the Lord. 00:09:54,968 S3: Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ! 00:09:59,667 S2: Just the other day, while I was watching a video of father Mike Schmidt interviewing Bishop Robert Baron, there was one question Bishop asked. That really caught my attention. I had to pause the video to think about it. I'm paraphrasing it, but it goes something like this. Have you ever asked yourself this question, do you love the benefits or do you love your spouse? Do you love for what's good in it? Or do you love your spouse for her own sake? Do you love the benefits or do you love the person? Abraham didn't say, I love God because his given me family, children, and lands. Because God has blessed me. Because what if God took away everything he had, like the book of Job? So we are left with the question. Do you love God or do you love the benefits of God? Because what if you were stripped of everything? Would you still love God if he took away every earthly comfort and blessing? So can you love God? Not because of what he can give you, but just for the sake of loving him. Can you love God with no strings attached? Unconditionally and sacrificially. Today's first reading was written before the people of God were sent to exile in Babylon during the time of Prophet Zephaniah. The Israelites were prosperous. They regarded material wealth as a sign of God's blessing. They began to love the benefits of God more than God. As a result, they became spiritually blind and became content with their material wealth and worldly comfort, and felt that they had no need for God. This led to their ultimate demise, and while in exile, they will learn to trust God and turn to him. One of the things that I've observed in my dad while growing up was that he was a very hard working man. He worked many hours and there was no such a thing as holiday or they offer him. But the reason why he worked so hard was to chase after his idea of worldly success. He worked hard to make money, then buy property. Then he leveraged that building and bought another property. Then another property. I think at one point he owned six properties. Having money made my dad feel important and that became his addiction. More money and more properties in the end. No amount of money and properties he owned was enough for him. It didn't make him happy. My dad was trying to find happiness in material wealth, but that didn't feel the emptiness he felt inside. Unfortunately, the 2008 financial crisis affected him. People couldn't pay the rent and without the rent, income by that couldn't afford to keep the buildings. He lost everything he had and declared bankruptcy. But there's a happy ending here, because it was precisely through losing his material wealth. He found God, or to put it the other way around because he lost everything. That he turned to God. I met many people who have climbed the mountain of success and still left them unsatisfied, unhappy, and even feeling empty inside. After many years of wandering, when Saint Augustine found God, he said, our hearts are restless until they rest in you. There is an inherent longing for God that can only be found in our relationship with God. One of the biggest mistakes we make in our society today is putting our own happiness above everything else in life. And we all have our own ideas of happiness. But the irony is that when we think of being happy, we think immediately of what we're missing in life. I will be happy when I can move out and be on my own. I'll be happy when I get promoted and be able to afford a bigger house with an extra bedroom or a second car. I'll be happy when I can retire and start living for myself, doing what I've always wanted to do, like traveling, gardening, etc.. I'm sure we can think of many examples and the list can go on and on. But what if we couldn't have any of the things we want? Can we still be happy? In today's gospel, we find Jesus's teaching. Um, Jesus teaching the crowd about how to be truly happy and blessed in this life. To be poor and meek, to be despised, hated, hated, or even persecuted. All things people in their right mind wouldn't choose. If I can have my own way, I would choose to be successful, respected by others, and strong enough not to fall victim to justice. Injustice. But in teaching the Beatitudes, Jesus is teaching us about the cost of discipleship. Sometimes we have to forego our own pursuit of wealth, power, and instant justice in order to follow God. Being on the right side of history and following God's will cost us, even though we may not be able to comprehend it today. One day we will. We will come to understand it was the price worth paying for a worthy sacrifice that will bear fruit in God's kingdom? Let us not forget that we live in a world that is not aligned with God's kingdom. It's because our values are not the same as God and it is due to our fallen nature. We are all vulnerable to corruption and sin. There is injustice, inequality and corruption in every society and government. We live in a world where it's easy to accumulate wealth and climb the ladder of power and status through dishonest means. But the price we have to pay is our ethics and moral integrity. I remember many years ago talking to a priest friend who had been a successful financial advisor. Before he became a priest. He admitted that he made a lot of money, but he had to leave his conscience at the door. He wasn't trying to make money for his clients. He was trying to make money for himself. And that's why he would make more money for himself than he did for his clients. One day he couldn't do it anymore. It eventually caught up to him. He could no longer suppress his conscience and moral integrity. So he left that scene for for good and became a priest. The world isn't perfect. There's no perfect happiness in this life. All we have here are moments of happiness and joy that are temporary and fleeting. We are not made for this life. We are made for heaven. I think that's why we feel unhappiness and problems in life. I think God is trying to get our attention. God is trying to cultivate our hunger for heaven. God's goal isn't to make us happy in this life, but to make you and me his own. It would be a tragedy if you were satisfied with life on earth and settled for our life on earth. This isn't our permanent home. The house you live in. The car you drive. The clothes you wear. The money. Money you have in your account. It's all temporary. We're on a journey towards our permanent home. All the longings of our hearts will be met in heaven. 00:17:30,467 S2: I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, his only son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit. Born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy. 00:17:59,868 S3: Spirit. 00:18:00,767 S2: The Holy Catholic. 00:18:01,667 S3: Church. 00:18:02,567 S2: The communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the Body and Blood of Christ, and for all those in our daily TV mass prayer intentions book. Just as Mary and Joseph entrusted Jesus into God's care. We pray to the Lord. 00:18:27,567 S3: Lord, hear our prayer. 00:18:29,200 S2: Heavenly father, we present to you all our needs. We ask you to grant them in the name of Jesus our Lord. 00:18:34,667 S3: Amen. Amen. 00:18:44,667 S6: Lord, we offer this family gift of bread. Be pleased to receive them. We pray and transform them into the sacrament of our redemption through Christ our Lord. 00:20:16,968 S3: Amen. 00:20:19,100 S2: The Lord be with you. 00:20:20,267 S3: And with your spirit. 00:20:21,467 S2: Lift up your. 00:20:22,100 S3: Hearts. Lord, Holy Father, Almighty and eternal God, through Christ our Lord. For through his Paschal mystery he accomplished the marvelous deed by which he has freed us from the yoke of sin and death, summoning us to the glory of being now called a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for your own possession, to proclaim everywhere your mighty works. For you have called us out of darkness into your own wonderful light. And so with angels and archangels, with thrones and dominions, and with all the hosts and powers of heaven. We sing the hymn of your glory. As without end we acclaim. 00:21:11,567 S5: Holy, holy, holy Lord God of hosts, heaven and earth are full of your glory. 00:21:25,167 S5: Hosanna in the highest. 00:21:30,367 S5: Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest! 00:21:46,901 S2: You are indeed holy, oh Lord, the fount of all holiness make holy. Therefore these gifts we pray by sending down your spirit upon them like the dew, so that they may become for us the body and the blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. At the time, he was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion. He took bread and giving thanks, broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, take this, all of you, and eat of it. For this is my body which will be given up for you. 00:22:27,767 S2: In a similar way, when supper was ended, he took the chalice, and once more giving thanks, he gave it to his disciples, saying, take this, all of you, and drink from it. For this is the chalice of my blood, the blood of the new and eternal covenant, which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this in memory of me. 00:22:59,968 S2: The ministry. 00:23:01,200 S8: Of faith. 00:23:05,901 S5: We proclaim your death, O Lord, and profess your resurrection 00:23:14,701 S5: until you come again. 00:23:22,767 S2: Therefore, as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection, we offer you, Lord, the bread of life and the chalice of salvation, giving thanks that you have held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you. Humbly we pray, the partaking of the Body and Blood of Christ. We may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit. Remember, Lord, your church spread throughout the world and bring her to the fullness of charity together with the you, our Pope and Francis, our Bishop, and all the clergy. Remember also our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection, and all who have died in your mercy. Welcome them into the light of your face. Have mercy on us all. We pray that with the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, we blessed Joseph, her spouse, with the blessed apostles and all the saints who have pleased you throughout the ages. We may merit to be choirs to eternal life, and may praise and glorify you through your Son Jesus Christ. 00:24:20,267 S8: Through him and with him and in him. Oh God Almighty father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honor is yours forever and ever. 00:24:36,000 S5: Amen. 00:24:38,901 S5: And. Amen. All. 00:24:44,567 S5: Men. 00:24:49,968 S2: At the Savior's command and formed by divine teaching. We dare to say. Our father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done. on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord. We pray from every evil. Graciously grant peace in our days, that by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin, and save from all distress. As we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. 00:25:28,300 S3: For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever. 00:25:32,300 S2: Lord Jesus Christ, who said to you, apostles, peace I leave you, my peace I give you. Blessed are those called to the supper of the lamb, Lord. 00:26:53,000 S3: For they live under my roof. But only say the word my soul shall be. 00:27:15,567 S9: Please join me now in this act of spiritual communion. My Jesus, I believe that you are present in this holy sacrament of the altar. I love you above all things, and I passionately desire to receive you into my soul. Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally, come spiritually into my soul so that I may unite myself wholly to you now and forever. Amen. 00:28:06,367 S2: Let us pray. Nourished by these redeeming gifts, we pray, O Lord, that through this help to eternal salvation, through faith may ever increase.
